Type of therapy @ East Hampshire Counselling

The type of therapy I offer is Person-Centred. This theory was created by Carl Rogers in 1951 whereby he believed that there is no better connection than human connections. He also believed that when a person enters into the therapeutic journey, they are the best expert to know what they need and where their journey will take them. The Psychotherapist's role in this relationship is to use empathy, unconditional positive regards and be congruent without influencing the client.

However, in my practice, by remaining person-centred as a core, I have integrated some cognitive behaviour /solution focussed therapy, creative therapy and also some animal assisted therapy. These have enhanced some of my clients' experiences of coming to therapy and have allowed them to explore and embark on a journey which has led to the start of healing and self-awareness.

The sessions are tailored to the individual client's needs and has led to some psychoeducation and understanding of why we as humans can feel the way we do. It has led to the clients' understanding that there is so much validation and "perfection" itself in our imperfections.

In the words of Charlie Mackesy (2019, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse),

""Don't measure how valuable you are by the way you are treated", said the Horse."
